How much should my child be revising each day?

How much revision your child should be doing each day is different for every child.

Things you may need to take into account:

- their other commitments (e.g. sports, clubs)

- their motivation levels

- what sort of grades they're working towards

- their concentration span

- the amount of homework they are being set

By default, the planner uses the following settings:

Term 1 (Sept-Dec) - 1 block per weekday

Term 2 (Jan - Easter) - 2 blocks per weekday

Term 3 (Easter - July) - 3 blocks per weekday

That takes into account the build up to exams, as well as the fact that they will have more to revise by the end of the year.

It also reflects the fact that their homework tends to reduce towards the end of the year as their teachers set revision tasks instead.  (Those can be built into their blocks each week.)

We usually suggest each block is 30 minutes.

That can be tweaked depending on your child.  If they need to start off with 10 minutes and build up, that's still better than nothing!

We'd advise they're not longer than 30 minutes though - science suggests that's a good time to take a quick break to keep your brain working at its best.

We appreciate that some students might be particularly motivated and want to do more revision each day, and that you may want to encourage them to revise at the weekend too.

The full version of the planner allows you to change the default settings to change the numbers of blocks, as well as adding blocks at the weekends.
